New Tuesday! (4/12)

So I didn’t do a post last week because the releases were Little Fockers, The Chronicles of Narnia and some other terrible movie. This week, we only have 2 new releases but one’s really amazing and the other…well, the less said the better.

First up, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Rated PG-13)

From imdb.com: Voldemort’s power is growing stronger. He now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to finish Dumbledore’s work and find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord. But little hope remains for the Trio, and the rest of the Wizarding World, so everything they do must go as planned. Written by Chris Green.

Now, it’s not available until Friday, but this movie is fantastic. If a book is split into two movies, it’s usually a huge money grab but that’s definitely not the case here. The final novel is a long (759 pages) and satisfying end to an era and the movies look to have the same impact. The main leads (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint) are older and wiser now but having seen them grow up before our eyes adds an emotional layer to this movie that very few can match. It’s what I believe many parents experience when their child leaves the house for college or what have you. A well crafted teaser that brings plenty of action and leaves you wanting more, but you’ll have to wait until July 15th…or you could just read the books again. Either way, buy this as soon as it comes out so you can refresh and prepare yourself for that final goodbye.

Next, Country Strong (Rated PG-13)

From metacritic.com: Soon after a rising young singer-songwriter gets involved with a fallen, emotionally unstable country star, the pair embarks on a career resurrection tour helmed by her husband/manager and featuring a beauty-queen-turned-singer. Between concerts, romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all. (Sony Pictures)

Oh boy, where do we start? This movie is a hot mess wearing wrangler jeans and a ten gallon hat. This complete rip off of Crazy Heart drama is muddled, soggy, uninspired and 17 other adjectives I’m too lazy to type. Lazy, that’s a good one too. The story is terrible and the performances would insult cardboard, especially from Leighton Meester, who couldn’t hit a baseball off a tee. She really just seems like she’s there for monetary purposes. I think the rest of the cast was under the same spell as they all kind of phone it in. The one positive about this movie is the music, which is fantastic. That being said, you should avoid this one at all costs. Seriously, Johnny Cash will come back from the grave and kill you.

Bam!

I wanted to take a quick second because I just realized that I Love You, Phillip Morris (Rated R) came out last week! Go rent that instead because it is hilarious and makes you realize Jim Carey isn’t terrible in everything.

About Bobby Carmona
